Imaging is a critical element of modern medicine used for diagnostic, prognostic, selection, planning, guidance, and therapy evaluation. Medical Imaging encompasses a broad range of modalities for radiology (e.g., MRI, CT) and pathology (e.g., microcopy) applications. The use of AI in imaging is revolutionizing the field and enhancing imaging quality, automating analysis (saving physician’s time), analyzing more markers simultaneously compared to traditional ways, prognostic, and predictive information. The fusion of AI and imaging in interventions presents new possibilities for autonomous workflows that increase quality and productivity, which can ease the translation of cutting-edge technology to clinical applications.  

The UMC Utrecht AI lab for Imaging and Image-guided interventions seeks to develop and assess novel technical AI components for disease diagnosis and image-guided interventions and implement and validate these in daily practice. The lab promotes stakeholder interactions, organizes matchmaking events, offers AI career opportunities, and fosters collaboration with industry and other partners nationally and internationally.
